How Our $200 Warranty Can Save You Thousands

The Warranty Call That Made All the Difference

WHY $200 A YEAR IS THE BEST INSURANCE YOU CAN BUY

I got a call last week from a customer we did work for two years ago.

Their dehumidifier kept tripping the breaker. They weren't sure what was going on, but they knew something wasn't right.

So I grabbed the parts I thought we'd need and headed out to take a look.

This is the part where most companies disappear. You call, you get transferred to a call center, maybe someone schedules a service visit three weeks from now and charges you $200 just to show up. If they show up at all.

That's not how we do it.

When you work with us, you get my cell number. You call, I answer. Something's not working? I come out and fix it. That's what a warranty actually means.

This crawlspace still looks great. The encapsulation is holding up perfectly. Customer even has storage down there. But the dehumidifier needs attention, so that's what we're here for.

No charge. No runaround. Just taking care of the people who trusted us with their home.

What Actually Happened

Let me walk you through the timeline so you can see how this played out.

Early February, we called this customer to schedule their annual warranty service. Like I said, they hesitated. It had been two years since we did their encapsulation, everything was working fine, and they'd honestly forgotten the service was part of keeping the warranty active.

But they went ahead and scheduled it. We came out, did the full maintenance - cleaned the filter, checked the drain lines, made sure everything was running properly. Extended their warranty for another year. Standard stuff.

Middle of March, they called. Dehumidifier wasn't running. We got out there and started running diagnostics. Called AprilAire directly, went through their checklist, and confirmed what we suspected - the compressor had failed.

That's not something you can predict. It's not something maintenance prevents. Compressors just fail sometimes. It's a mechanical part that can go bad without warning.

So we ordered a brand new unit and swapped it out. Took the old one, installed the new one, made sure it was working properly. Total cost to the customer? Zero.

If they hadn't kept up with that $200 annual service, they'd be looking at paying full price for a replacement dehumidifier. And depending on the model and installation, that runs anywhere from $1,500 to $2,500.

One $200 payment saved them up to $2,300. That's the whole point of a warranty - it protects you when something actually breaks.

What Our $200 Warranty Actually Covers

Let me be clear about what you're getting for that $200 a year.

First, we come out and do actual maintenance. We're not just popping our head in and calling it good. We clean the dehumidifier filter. We check all the drain lines to make sure water's flowing where it should. We inspect the vapor barrier for any issues. We make sure the whole system is working the way it's supposed to.

Second, and this is the big one - we cover everything we installed. If something breaks, we fix it or replace it. Free. That dehumidifier compressor? Covered. If a drain line fails? Covered. If there's an issue with the vapor barrier? Covered.

There are no exceptions. There's no fine print that says "normal wear and tear isn't included" or "you have to pay for the inspection first." If we installed it and it breaks, we handle it.

Third, you get peace of mind that someone's actually checking on your crawlspace. Most people never go down there. You don't know if the dehumidifier stopped working or if there's a problem developing. We catch those things before they turn into bigger issues.

And finally, you're keeping your warranty active. As long as you do the annual service, your coverage continues. You're protected year after year.

That's what $200 a year gets you. Real maintenance, real coverage, and real protection.

Why Most Warranties Don't Work This Way

Here's what I see with other companies, especially the big billboard operations.

They'll sell you a "lifetime warranty" that sounds amazing. But then you actually read it and realize it doesn't cover much of anything. Equipment failures? Not covered. Repairs? You pay for those. They'll warranty the installation itself, but good luck proving that's what failed versus normal wear and tear.

Or they make you jump through hoops to use it. You have to pay for them to come out and inspect the problem first. That's $150 to $200 just to tell you what's wrong. Then they'll decide if it's covered or not. And most of the time, they'll find a reason it's not.

Some warranties require you to use their maintenance service, but then they never actually call you to schedule it. So your warranty expires without you realizing it. And when something breaks, they say "well, you didn't keep up with the maintenance."

The biggest problem? There's no accountability. You call the number, you get a call center. They open a ticket. Maybe someone calls you back. Maybe they don't. You're just another number in the system.

That's not how a warranty should work. When you pay for coverage, it should actually cover you. When something breaks, someone should answer the phone and fix it. Simple as that.

The Real Cost of Skipping Maintenance

I get it. Two hundred dollars a year feels like an expense you can skip. Especially when everything's working fine.

But here's what actually happens when you skip it.

Equipment fails without warning. Just like this compressor. It was working fine in February. Dead in March. There's no way to predict it. And without warranty coverage, you're paying full price for a replacement.

Small problems turn into big ones. Maybe a drain line gets a small clog. If we catch it during annual service, it's a quick fix. If we don't, that water backs up, floods your crawlspace, and now you're dealing with standing water and potential damage to the vapor barrier.

You lose your warranty coverage. Skip the annual service, and you're not protected anymore. When something breaks - and eventually something will - you're on your own. That $200 you saved just cost you $2,000.

You're starting over with out-of-pocket costs. No coverage means paying for repairs, replacements, and service calls yourself. All the money you invested in the original installation doesn't protect you anymore.

And here's the thing that really gets me - your crawlspace system needs attention. Dehumidifiers aren't "set it and forget it" equipment. They need maintenance to keep working properly. Skipping that doesn't save you money. It just delays the bill and makes it bigger.

What Customers Need to Know

If you're a current customer, don't skip your annual service. I know it's easy to forget or think you don't need it. But that $200 isn't just maintenance - it's your protection when something goes wrong.

Think about it this way. One equipment failure pays for ten years of coverage. Like this customer - they paid $200 and avoided a $2,500 bill one month later. That's a pretty good return.

If you're shopping around for crawlspace work, ask about warranties. And I mean really ask. Don't just take "lifetime warranty" at face value. Get specific.

What exactly is covered? Is equipment included or just the installation? What about repairs? Do you have to pay for service calls? How do you actually use the warranty when something breaks? Is there an annual maintenance requirement, and do they call you to schedule it?

Most importantly - can you talk to a real person when you need help? Or are you calling an 800 number and hoping someone gets back to you?

A warranty is only as good as the company backing it. And a company is only as good as their willingness to actually stand behind their work.

Local matters. Owner-operated matters. When the person who answers the phone is the same person who oversees your installation and services your equipment, that matters.

 Take the Next Step

If you're an existing customer and it's time for your annual service, schedule it. Don't put it off. Don't skip it thinking you'll do it next year. Keep your warranty active and keep your system protected.

If we haven't called you yet and you think you're due, reach out. We'll get you on the schedule. Two hundred dollars now is a lot cheaper than thousands later.

And if you're considering crawlspace work for the first time, let's talk about what real warranty coverage looks like. I'll explain exactly what we do, what we cover, and how it works when you actually need it.

No pressure. No games. Just a straightforward conversation about protecting your home and your investment.

You can call me directly or send a message. We'll get you taken care of.

Why drainage matting matters for crawlspace encapsulation, with matting shown in a crawlspace
By Stetson Howard May 15, 2026
I'm standing in a crawlspace in Knoxville that's tall enough to walk around in. The customers use it for storage. Christmas decorations, old furniture, boxes of stuff they don't need every day but want to keep. They called because they know the crawlspace has moisture issues. That old vapor barrier on the ground is to

I was in a crawlspace yesterday - older house, probably built in the '70s - and saw something I see all the time. Black dots all over the wood. Hundreds of them. I can't tell you how many times I've seen inspection reports with pictures of these exact dots labeled as "severe mold contamination." Then the homeowner

I was out in Farragut yesterday for a warranty inspection. Customer we did about two years ago - full encapsulation, dehumidifier, sump pump. His dehumidifier died. Just stopped working. Non-serviceable parts. Nothing anyone did wrong, just bad luck.
