2 Years Later: Checking In On Our Crawlspace Work
Still Here, Still Taking Care of Our Customers
THIS IS WHAT WARRANTY SERVICE ACTUALLY MEANS
I got a call last week from a customer we did work for two years ago.
Their dehumidifier kept tripping the breaker. They weren't sure what was going on, but they knew something wasn't right.
So I grabbed the parts I thought we'd need and headed out to take a look.
This is the part where most companies disappear. You call, you get transferred to a call center, maybe someone schedules a service visit three weeks from now and charges you $200 just to show up. If they show up at all.
That's not how we do it.
When you work with us, you get my cell number. You call, I answer. Something's not working? I come out and fix it. That's what a warranty actually means.
This crawlspace still looks great. The encapsulation is holding up perfectly. Customer even has storage down there. But the dehumidifier needs attention, so that's what we're here for.
No charge. No runaround. Just taking care of the people who trusted us with their home.
What Happened on This Job
We installed this system about two years ago. Full encapsulation, dehumidifier, the whole setup.
Everything's been running fine until recently. The dehumidifier started tripping the breaker. Not all the time, but enough that the customer noticed.
When they called, I already had a pretty good idea what it was. These units have certain parts that wear out over time. It happens. That's why we stock the parts and know how to fix them.
I told them I'd be out within the week. Brought the parts with me so we could handle it same day.
Ran the diagnostics down there. Confirmed what I thought. Swapped out the parts. Made sure everything was running properly again.
Total cost to the customer? Zero. They did their annual warranty service this year, so this is covered. Even if they hadn't, we'd still take care of it. That's what the warranty is for.
The crawlspace itself looks excellent. Vapor barrier is still in great shape. No smells. No moisture issues. Storage items are fine. The encapsulation did exactly what it was supposed to do.
We just needed to service the equipment. And that's exactly what we did.
Why Most Companies Don't Do This
Here's the reality of how most crawlspace companies operate.
They're built around volume. Close as many deals as possible, install as fast as possible, and move on to the next customer. There's no incentive to come back. In fact, coming back costs them money.
So when you call with a problem, you're not talking to the people who did your work. You're talking to a call center somewhere. They don't know your system. They don't know what was installed. They're just reading off a script and trying to get you off the phone.
If you do get someone to come out, it's weeks later. And there's probably a service fee. Even though you paid for a warranty, somehow this particular issue isn't covered. Or they need to "assess" it first before they can tell you if it's covered.
The warranty sounds great when you're signing the contract. But try actually using it.
Big companies can get away with this because they're not local. They don't have to live with their reputation. They move into an area, do a bunch of jobs, and if people complain, who cares? They've got a corporate office somewhere handling the angry calls.
I can't operate like that. And I wouldn't want to even if I could.
How We Approach Warranties Differently
When we install a system, we're not done. We're just getting started.
You get direct access to me or one of my managers. Real people who know your job, know what we installed, and can actually help you. No call center. No transferring around trying to find someone who knows what they're talking about.
We come back. For maintenance, for issues, for questions. That's part of the deal. I want to see how our work is holding up. I want to make sure the equipment is running right. And if something needs attention, we handle it.
We stock parts for the equipment we install. I'm not ordering something and making you wait three weeks. I keep common parts on hand because I know what tends to need replacing over time.
There's no runaround about what's covered. If the dehumidifier isn't working right, we fix it. If there's an issue with the encapsulation, we address it. I'm not looking for loopholes to get out of warranty work. I'm looking to solve the problem.
This is built into how we run the business. It's not some extra service we tack on. It's just how we operate. Because I know that a happy customer two years later is worth more than squeezing every dollar out of the initial sale.
And honestly, my reputation depends on it. I live here. I see customers around town. My kids go to school with their kids. I can't hide from a bad job or ignore warranty calls. This is my community.

What Homeowners Should Expect
If you're paying thousands of dollars for crawlspace work, here's what you should get.
Clear warranty terms in writing. Not fine print buried in a contract. A straightforward explanation of what's covered and for how long. If something breaks, you shouldn't have to play detective to figure out if it's included.
Direct access to the company. A real phone number that reaches real people. When you call, someone answers who actually knows your job and can help you. Not a recording, not a call center, not someone who has to "check with their manager."
Timely response to issues. If your dehumidifier stops working, someone should be out within days, not weeks or months. And they should show up with the tools and parts needed to fix it, not just look at it and schedule another visit.
No surprise fees for covered work. Warranty means warranty. If something's covered, there shouldn't be a service charge, a diagnostic fee, or any other made-up cost. You already paid for this.
Regular maintenance options. These systems need upkeep. Filters need cleaning. Drain lines need checking. A good company offers maintenance so small issues don't become big problems.
Someone who actually knows your system. When we come back, we know what we installed. We have records. We remember the job. We're not starting from scratch trying to figure out what the last guy did.
That's the baseline. If your contractor isn't offering this, find someone else.
The Real Cost of Cheap Warranties
Let's talk about what happens when you go with a company that doesn't stand behind their work.
You end up paying twice. Once for the original job that didn't last, and again to fix it or replace it. That "great deal" you got upfront just cost you double because nobody came back when things went wrong.
You waste time fighting for coverage. Hours on the phone. Emails back and forth. Trying to prove something should be covered. Arguing with people who don't care. All while your crawlspace is still broken and getting worse.
Equipment fails from lack of maintenance. That dehumidifier needs attention. If nobody's checking on it, small problems become big ones. Then when it completely dies, suddenly it's "normal wear and tear" and not covered.
The frustration alone is costly. The stress of dealing with a company that won't help you. The uncertainty of not knowing if your crawlspace is actually protected. The feeling of being ripped off. That weighs on you.
"Lifetime warranty" means nothing if the company won't answer the phone. I've seen so many of these warranties that sound amazing on paper. But when you actually need them? Good luck. The company has moved on, or they've got so many exclusions that nothing's actually covered.
A warranty you can actually use is worth more than the cheapest price. I'd rather you pay a fair price upfront and know we'll be here when you need us, than save a few hundred dollars and end up stuck with a company that disappears.
Take the Next Step
Look, I can't promise you'll never have an issue with your crawlspace system. Equipment wears out. Things need maintenance. That's just reality.
But I can promise we'll be here to take care of it.
When you call, you'll get me or one of my managers. We'll come out and actually fix the problem. No runaround. No surprise fees. Just honest service from people who stand behind their work.
We'll do a free inspection and give you a clear assessment of what your crawlspace needs. No pressure, no games. Just straightforward information so you can make the right decision.
And when we do the work, we'll be here two years later. Five years later. However long it takes. That's the commitment.
If you want a crawlspace company that actually answers the phone and shows up when you need them, let's talk.
